i love doing school visits!
Both educational and engaging! My students were even more jazzed to help whales after Marta’s visit.
Talking with kids about whales and writing is the best. Let's just say I'm a *little* enthusiastic about both of these topics. I've done many book readings and whale talks, and would be happy to tailor a presentation to your classroom or school's specific needs.
My standard presentation is one I developed for talks I did at the California Academy of Sciences. This includes reading my picture book, Little Gray’s Great Migration, and then an approximately 30-minute interactive presentation about the Pacific gray whale using the story as a framework. It’s especially good for kids ages 6-10.
Because Little Gray’s Great Migration integrates a lot of science into this fictional tale, I can also talk with students about the research and writing process for the book, plus help kids craft their own science-inspired story.
Please contact me for rate information and to start planning your school’s event(s)!
NOTE: I really like to do book signings at school visits. Ideally your classroom will send home an order form and contact a local bookstore or my publisher Arbordale to do a special order of Little Gray’s Great Migration for interested students before my event.
